Limits and naming rules
Understand registration allowances and valid subdomain names.
Account allowance
| Account state | Subdomain limit |
|---|---|
| Default account | 1 |
| GitHub star verified | Up to 5 total |
To unlock the higher allowance, use Star repo in the dashboard notice, then Refresh status. Star the repository linked by that notice using the GitHub account you use for isroot.
The higher allowance is five total, rather than five additional registrations. Accounts that already exceeded the default limit may retain existing registrations; check the dashboard for your remaining allowance.
Registration rate
After a successful registration, wait one hour before creating another subdomain. This cooldown applies even when your account has remaining slots.
Naming rules
- Use 3–63 characters.
- Use lowercase letters, digits, and hyphens.
- Start and end with a letter or digit.
- Enter only your chosen label, without
.isroot.in. - Choose a name that is available and passes the reserved-name and language checks.
For example, my-project is valid in format; ab, -project, and my_project are not. A valid format does not guarantee that the name is available. Infrastructure names such as admin and www are reserved.
Registration period
Registrations last 365 days. Renewal opens 60 days before expiry. See Manage subdomains for the renewal flow and grace-period details.
DNS input limits
TTL must be a whole number of at least 60 seconds. MX priority must be between 0 and 65535. See DNS record reference for supported types and input examples.
